Customs, duties and taxes

• GST of 9% applies to imported goods. For goods worth S$400 or less, it is usually collected at purchase rather than at the border.
• Customs duty applies only to alcohol, tobacco, motor vehicles and petroleum products.
• Medicines need to be for personal use, and some require a permit from Singapore's Health Sciences Authority.

Restricted and prohibited items

• Chewing gum, except approved dental or medicinal gum
• E-cigarettes and vaping products
• Controlled medicines without a permit
• Firecrackers and other explosives

Documents you need

• A copy of the sender's photo ID, such as Aadhaar, PAN or passport (required for all international courier from India)
• An invoice listing each item, its quantity and value; a proforma invoice is fine for gifts and personal items
• The receiver's full address, postcode and a working phone number for customs and delivery contact
